As someone who used the Arlo, it has pros & cons:

Pros:
  • Easy to set up (little technical know-how required). Put the cameras anywhere within range of the Wifi base station.
  • Battery operated. No need to run power cables. This is a huge benefit for some people looking for cheap home security.
  • Motion-sensor records images & video when movement is detected, stores in the Netgear cloud.
Cons:
  • Batteries are pricey and need to be replaced every 2-5 weeks, depending on the wifi signal quality and video quality settings. Each camera takes 2 special batteries called CR123A batteries, which cost more than regular Alkaline batteries (or buy rechargeable batteries & charger).
  • The motion-sensor takes too much time to start recording, or never records at all. This means recordings sometimes miss the action.
  • Basic cloud storage is free, otherwise you will have to pay.
  • Night vision has a range of about 20-25 feet, so it's really only effective indoors.
The Arlo does have some of the better reviews of all home security cameras. We recommend the Arlo for simple installation, setup, and use.

If someone is looking for better quality recordings, there are lots of other options like an Amcrest IP2M-841W for $72 with code PCSJG3F7 , and supports remote pan/tilt and 2-way talking.
