Details:Obihai Voice-Over-IP Home Phone Adapter for $40
(repost)

Normally about $50 to $51.

This little box can provide free or paid telephone service for your home. It requires a broadband Internet service of at least 0.5 megabit (500 Kbps), and a regular home telephone or cordless phone. Setting up a free Google Voice account is easy, as demonstrated in this instructional video.

We had the 2-line OBi202 version for 3 years and love it. The pros:
  • Call quality is better and more stable than mobile/cell phones.
  • All calls (incoming and outgoing) within the US and Canada are free with Google Voice.
  • Google voice integrates well with your home computer and mobile phone, so you can also make/receive calls while at work and away from home.
The cons:
  • Emergency 911 calls do not work with Google Voice. You cannot make emergency calls from your home phone, unless you pay $15/year for 911 service through Anveo or similar service. We pay this fee, and enjoy the piece of mind knowing emergency responders would electronically see our home address immediately when calling 911 (mobile/cell phones do not yet reliably do this).
  • Dialing someone means literally pressing their digits. Some home phones can download your mobile phone's contact list, such as this home phone, making it easier to dial people.
