Beware, those use "TLC" memory to store your data.
While this new technology performs fast, they can be fairly unreliable technology and could give bad news for those who do not keep good backups of their data.
Next step up, while still fairly low cost:
If performance (speed of reads and writes) and reliability are most important, check out the Samsung 850 EVO-Series Solid State Drives.
They include a 5-year warranty, and rated one of the best performing, most reliable SSDs on the market today.
If data security is important, check out a Samsung 850 "Pro" solid state drive.
It is also one of the best performing, most reliable SSDs on the market, and has built-in hardware AES encryption (if your laptop supports it).
These are also backed by a 10-year warranty.
To see if your laptop is compatible with hardware encryption, boot to the BIOS (normally F1, F8, F10, or DEL on bootup), look under its Security settings, and see if your laptop has a "HDD Password" or "Hard Disk Encryption" setting (example video). Note that this is separate than the BIOS's password, supervisor password, and boot passwords. If you do have a hard disk encryption password feature, your laptop can automatically encrypt your entire Samsung 850 Pro SSD without needing special decryption software, protecting your data if your laptop is stolen. |
