Details:Income Tax Return Filing Services:
(repost)

A good place to start is IRS.gov, where they have a list of certified E-File providers. Be very careful submitting personal information to any tax website not on their list. Also be sure you are visiting "IRS.GOV" (spelled exactly like that)and not some look-alike scam site.

Some deals:
  • If your income was $54,000 or less in 2007, you qualify to file your federal tax return electronicly for free directly using any of the IRS's Free File Alliance companies. Most of those services can also e-file your state return for a few dollars.
  • If your income in 2007 was $30,000 or less, or if you were an active military member with an income $54,000 or less, Intuit offers free federal & state e-file.
  • TaxActOnline free Federal Tax Filing. State filing costs $14 per state. If your tax return is straightforward, without anything complicated such as itimizing and personal business income, TaxAct a good choice with a good review.
  • Turbotax Online free Federal Tax Filing, but they charge $31 or $35 to file a state return. If your tax return is straightforward, their 1040EZ service works great online. Pricier than TaxAct, but is rated one of the best online services. If you own a home or have donated goods and business expenses to deduct, their Deluxe online service for $50 plus $35 for state is a good choice.
No additional e-file fees when using these services - the e-file fee is included in the total fee.

Also software available for purchase: TurboTax software has a few better features than Taxcut, but ends up costing more than other software & services.

The software can print filled-out tax returns or file them online. TurboTax software charges $18 to e-file, and TaxCut charges $20 to e-file.

Filing online also gives you a quicker refund, typically within 1-3 weeks if the return has no errors, as opposed to regular mail which can take 4-8 weeks.

Someone who lived in a state which requires a state return will need to file one for each state they lived in 2007. States which do not have a income tax return requirement are: AK, FL, NV, SD, TN, TX, WY.

Many people in the US are eligible for $300, $600, or even $1200 from a tax rebate this year. You need to file a Federal tax return to qualify for the rebate, even if you normally do not file a return.
