A docking station is a great idea to offload or backup your collection of photos, videos, and personal data. Any Serial-ATA hard drive acts like a removable cartridge, that you can plug in/out whenever you want. If your desktop PC has an eSATA port, you may want to look at a BlacX eSATA Docking Station. However the USB3.0 one is more portable, since it should work on almost every PC/Mac/Linux computer with a USB port.
