Heat level:this is a HOT DEAL!
Countries:available in USA
Details:Steam Link for $15, With Controller for $45
(repost)

The Steam Link is on sale for one more day at $15, or bundled with a controller for $45.

Steam Link normally sells for at least $30. Also available at Amazon.com for the same $15 price, but a back-order shipping delay.

It works with a lot of $20 controllers, including Playstation controllers, Bluetooth controllers, and USB controllers.

This can be a hot deal if you have:
  • a PC (Windows or Linux) with a good video card,
  • a living room TV,
  • and a wired Ethernet network (Cat5e, Cat6, or powerline network) connecting your living room and PC. Wifi not recommended.
  • (Optional) an A/V Receiver or speaker system that gets audio from HDMI (otherwise, it will use your TV's built-in speaker)
Steam Link connects your living room TV with your PC, even if they are in separate rooms. With Steam Link, you can:
  • Play Steam Store purchased games on your TV. PC games are usually cheaper than Xbox and Playstation games.
  • Play movies and music from your PC onto your TV.
  • View just about anything from your PC to your TV (read this discussion).
Setup fairly straightforward. Here is an example setup image.

If you have heard of Kodi or Plex, some people set up Kodi/Plex through their Steam Link to play videos and music from their network to their TV. A dedicated Kodi or Plex player would normally sell for at least $50.

Before buying:
  • Read some user reviews.
  • Know that Steam Link only works while your PC is powered on.
  • See how games play on your PC. Any lag or noticeable problems with show on your TV too, since Steam Link copies your PC's display onto your TV.
  • Know that some configuration/setup (and technical know-how) may be required. Here is an article about tweaking the picture quality of the Steam Link settings, and general PC and network knowledge may be required.
  • It is not designed for streaming audio and video like a Roku, Amazon Fire Stick, Chromecast, or Blu-ray Player, but can be used for that purpose with slight quality degradation.
So, a game console (Xbox or Playstation) will be easier to setup. A Roku, Chromecast, Amazon Fire Stick, Blu-ray Player, or Kodi box will be easier to watch video/audio on your TV (and probably with better quality). However, at $15, we think this is a hot deal since it expands your PC's games and apps into your living room with relative ease.
