This OBi202 is a 2-line voice-over-IP adapter, meaning it can link your home or office telephone (aka, a cordless phone) with a free Internet-based phone service.

Here is a setup video with Google Voice, which gives free incoming and outgoing calls within the US and Canada (no monthly service fees).

Our OBi202 has worked great in an office for 2 years, without any issues. We like it because:
  • Call quality is superior to mobile/call phones.
  • All calls (incoming and outgoing) within the US and Canada are free with Google Voice. International calling rates are fairly cheap, too.
  • Using Google Voice, incoming calls can ring both the home phone and cell phone at the same time, provide call screening features, and has online voicemail playback.
  • You can assign yourself a new phone number with Google Voice, or port over a phone number you already use.
The cons:
  • Emergency 911 calls do not work with free Google Voice. They do offer E911 service through Anveo which has an annual fee. We paid the fee, because having quick access to emergency calling can be worth the cost.
  • Does not have a bettery backup during a power outage, so the OBi202 will stop working during a power outage. You can invest in a UPS (uninterruptible power supply), giving battery backup.
