I have several pair of "open headphones" (meaning that they permit other sounds to be clearly audible) for gaming but I really needed "closed headphones" (meaning that they are nearly, completely immersive) for enjoying music. I have used "open" ones so long that when I put these on, it felt like I had just put in ear-plugs! Before even pushing play on my sweet iPod Touch, I literally heard all noise around me dampened to the lowest grumble. I was legitimately astonished how these petite headphones could accomplish such a feat. And, music? Wow. Exactly for what I was hoping! Completely and totally immersive! With my other earphones, "pianissimo" translated to "not gonna hear it" ... and if I increased the volume, I'd be deafened by a crescendo I forgot to anticipate. Imagine listening to Orff's Carima Burana ... it was a vicious cycle of "Hmm, I can't hear anything" followed by "OWWWWWWWW!" Now, I can listen to drunken monks in all their glory.
The overall sound quality is impressive; however, do know that though I am a lover of classical music, I am not a headphone aficionado. So, while these assist me in enjoying my favorite works, if you are a collector of headphones, you may wish to hear these in-person first. Nonetheless, I can add that I was listening to The Dust Brothers (from the Fight Club soundtrack) and the low end was profoundly deep. Again, I was truly amazed at the power of this Bose product!
The matching case is such a lovely bonus. It unzips on three sides and has a soft interior to prevent scratching. And, the fact that these headphones easily fold and rotate into this small case means that I can take these with me when I travel ... I'm usually stuck with my iPhone earbuds. This is a fantastic, exciting alternative to those.
And, the use memory-foam? Is it hype? No way. WOW! These are incredibly comfortable! (I cannot say the same for all of my headphones).
Finally, the cord is entirely detachable for less tangling and mess. Moreover, it is long enough to allow your iPhone or iPod to be tucked into a pocket (with considerable excess for when you want to use them with your 3DS, desktop, laptop, or tablet. And, the pop of color is a delight! (For me, the cord is a mint green ... love it!)
I tried these in Target before buying them here. Still, I was worried that the chaotic store environment would not provide me with a true experience. I purchased these with slight hesitation (they sat in my cart here for about one month). My goodness, any worry had evaporated in under twenty-seconds. I am so relieved and ecstatic with these gorgeous, outstanding quality headphones!
High recommended for those who enjoy classical, EDM, and alt.
