Subject: Cendyne Posting

Hi --

Just wanted to let you know that although I received my long awaited $40
rebate check from Cendyne for a CD Player/burner last week, two days
prior to your posting their demise, I deposited the darned thing the same
day and now, I've been told it bounced and bounced and bounced......

Just thought I'd share that with you in case your members receive a check
from them, don't deposit it.  I incurred fees when their check bounced -
just found out about the fees and the check bouncing this morning.  Let
me see if Staples will honor the rebate.....

(Along with $5 in Fees from the fine folks at Wells Fargo.  I would have been happier if the check wouldn't have come.  I suppose that I'll visit the local Office Max and see what they have to say...

We apologize for any delay you experienced in receiving this check. However, CenDyne, Inc the sponsor of the rebate promotion, has been placed in a receivership by the California cours, and has ceased funding this rebate program. We are happy to inform you that Staples, Inc, the retailer from whom you purchased your Cendyne/PGI/Verbatim product, has chosen to fund your rebate check in the place of Cendyne, in order to ensure the best possible experience for you as valued Staples customers.

Since I have this in writing from a law firm (call me naive) I thought it would be okay to deposit the check. The bank did refund my service fee. I also wrote to Staples but never heard back from them. Just thought I'd keep you posted. ************************************* We are responding to your e-mail regarding the 'CenDyne' Receivership. On August 14, 2003 the Superior Court of California placed CenDyne Incorporated in Receivership. The Receiver determined that the business could not continue and the company has closed. CenDyne will not ship any more products. Additionally, CenDyne can no longer provide warranty service, and will not accept or process rebate certificates. Approved rebate certificates will be included in a future claim administration process. In a few weeks the Receiver will notify you about your eligibility on approved rebates. We are arranging to obtain the consumer database such as names and addresses of eligible rebate claimants from Parago. CenDyne Inc. no longer has telephone tech support. Please go to our web page at www.cendyne.com/support for online help and to read FAQ^Òs. If you have attempted to cash a CenDyne rebate check and it did not clear please instruct your bank to re-present the rebate check. Regarding this, you may wish to contact Parago on (877) 580-3348 for additional information. If you have an un-expired rebate check, we understand from Parago that it should clear and therefore you should feel free to cash it. While the Receiver cannot reimburse you with the fees assessed by your Bank, you may wish to show this mail to your Bank and explain the fact that both Parago and the Receiver have requested that the returned check be re-deposited in view of the extraordinary situation, your bank might consider waiving such charges as it is apparently not your fault. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

To: Hot Deals Maniac Subject: CenDyne & Fry's Just wanted to share my experience at Fry's this week attempting to get my $30 CenDyne rebate from them.   I bought a DVD burner at Fry's in June and went to that store the other day to talk to the manager about the $30 CenDyne rebate.  I had my original reciept and copies of my rebate submission.  I finally got a moment with the store's Assistant Manager and explained my predicament to him.  He, of course, was aware of CenDyne's bankruptcy, but he said that he'd need a letter saying that my rebate was denied or something to that effect.  I told him that I thought I'd be waiting a long time for that, and that it's a 40 mile drive round-trip, and I'd like to get this resolved today.   I told him that other people's rebate checks were bouncing and that I had spent $3000 on other items the day I bought the DVD burner.  After a few minutes of persistence, he agreed to a $30 price match on the burner.   Thank you for a great website.

I had a big problem with Parago (they had authorized a $50 rebate for me seven times but still had not sent it) and after writing to Staples, they took care of it within two weeks with a check straight from them. Staples gets two thumbs up from me for customer service and not always just thinking of the bottom line.
