I have owned this Cyberhome (Argus Camera Company) dvd player for 2
weeks. I ordered another one yesterday and one of my friends ordered one
today. It is the best dvd player I have ever seen. It's not some cheap
plastic Apex type. This bad boy is heavy metal. It has a very nice
display and plays all my mp3s, super video discs that I have burned as
well as excellent support. It is firmware upgradable. The remote is
very user friendly. I can even find a time spot on a dvd without any
problems. My $500 JVC has a manual an inch thick and I still don't know
how to work it after 2 years. This Cyberhome player is a steal. I don't
understand how Best Buy can sell them this cheap but I would snap up
several more before someone wakes up and realizes their mistake.

I bought one of these amazing value/$ players a little while back. Nothing
touches it. It does not have the skipping/bad pixel problems of the other
$100 range players (I had bought and returned 4 after testing with some
older rented scratched discs). Also you missed another amazing feature
usually only found on $300 players. It has Dolby Digital and DTS decoders
built in. Not just output for a digital reciever. I hooked it up to my
old reciever with 5.1 input an no digital decoding. Now I have full
digital decoding in my bedroom!
I have been telling everyone asking about DVD players about this sweet box.....

I bought the CyberHome 500 DVD player when it was on sale a few weeks
ago. It works great. I would suggest a firmware upgrade
so that one can play SVCD disks and jpeg disks without any problem. The
region and Macrovision hack works with the
new firmware. The link is below.

are you sure the $20 rebate is printing out on the 500 model on in-store
purchases? i know online there is a lower model, the 402, with a $20
mail-in rebate. that model also carries a price of $70, so i just want to
make sure this is the case before wasting a trip to my local best buy.

the reviews on this player are not universally good.
in fact if you check out vcdhelp.com, the reviews are
bad... because of this i have not purchased, but agree
the specs look great.

Subject: clarification on cyberhome dvd
First, I think the rebate applies to the 402 model
(non-progressive scan); 49.99 after rebate. It
doesn't apply to the 500 model. Second, I bought one
the other day on-line (500 model) and picked it up at
the store. When I got it home, it was missing all the
accessories; power cord, remote, instructions, etc.
Looked to me like it was open box return. Couldn't
exchange at the store because it was sold out... been
a tremendous hassle so far. If you buy at the store,
make sure you open it up at the checkstand before
handing over any money.

As I said in previous email, I own the cyberhome dvd500 and it is
Progressive scan..The other model for $59.99 is not. it is something
like dvd402 l..I own 2 of the cyberhome dvd500 players and they are
indeed progressive scan..your readers are missreading the Best Buy web
site and looking at the wrong player. Please set them straight on your
web site. The confusing part is that on the web site it shows the DVD
402 as $69.99 and the DVD 500 as $119.99 but when you go to buy either of
them the DVD402 sells for $59.99 and the DVD 500 sells for $69.99. It is
confusing to your readers I guess... Just tell them that the CH DVD-500
is the one that sells for $69.99 and it is indeed progressive scan..
Thanks.

HD Maniac,
I bought the DVD player last night, and the one they had in the front of
the store was the 402, which is not Progressive Scan. I am returning it
this morning. The CyberHome website says that the 500 is Progressive
Scan. So, if that is true, then it is a good deal at $70.00, or even
better at $50.00. I plan to go back today and find out what is going on.

I purchased this last night and it is indeed legit. The stack of units on
the floor of Best Buy is mostly the CH-DVD 402 but there are CH-DVD 500
units mixed in. The handwritten sign on top says $69.99 minus $20 rebate and
refers to the CH-DVD 402. I had them scan the UPC of the CH-DVD 500 and it
came up as $69.99. The Best Buy item number is 4773524 and it is the CH-DVD
500 and it is definitely a progressive scan - check www.cyberhome.com. When
I checked out at the register a $20 rebate printed matching the 4773524 item
number. Rebate good until today. Also, according to the CyberHome web site,
they are aware of the SVCD problem and are working on a fix.
Great site you have. Thanks for all the tips.

I just purchased another Cyber Home DVD 500 and got the $20 rebate making
the Hot Deal even Hotter. The price becomes
$49.00 and is only good today. The 500 does have progressive scan. See
specifications link below. Be sure you buy the DVD 500 not the DVD 402
which Best Buy also has. The 402 does not have progressive scan and
actually costs more since there is no
rebate and it sells for $59.95.
The machine works great and Cyber Home has firmware updates and there are
region and Macrovision hacks.

Hi,
I bought the CH DVD 500 DVD player at Best Buy last
night. It was price marked $49.99 after rebates.
Rebates printed out at the checkout counter. There was
a model 402 for $69.99. The model 500 was in the aisle
along with other DVD players. It is not easily
visible.
Model 500 has progressive scan.

Dear Sir.
Thank you very much for the information about
this DVD.
I just bought it and find out that it really get
the prograssive scan. Best Buy get another modle
which is 402 with black player case. People just
confused 402 with newer model CH-DVD500 with silver
player case. It get S-Video and components Video outputs
and get build-in DTS/5.1 Digital Decoder.
I have downloaded the upgrade file and updated the
BOIS. The CD-R music play was great. The DVD play back
was OK.
I searched the WEB, someone mentioned that this player
is the first DVD player on the market which use the new
designed Chip which would combine all the function into
one Chip and reduce the manufacutring cost.
The final price after the mailing rebate is
$49.99 from Best Buy. Considering the rich features,
qulity built and great price. It definitely qulify
the "Red Hot Deal".
Thank you. Great Job.

Website says it does 480p, the false advertising rumors are false. But Buy
doesn't say it does 480p, the just say it has Progressive Scan Component
Video Output, which some people might be reading wrong thinking it only
has component out and not progressive scan capability. I'm thinking about
trading my Panasonic back in for this baby if I like how it looks in the
store. Thing is my TV is a pannie and the remote works for both so.
P.S. I visit the site twice daily and have told numerous people about
it. Friends always wonder how I get such good deals on stuff, like the
PC-DVD remote from Compgeeks, that was a big hit at my last party. Thanks
for all the great Hot Deals.

I bought the CyberHome DVD500 at BestBuy for $69.99 on Dec 31.
Got a $20 rebate coupon printed at the register. Unbelievable.
I was in just 2 days before and they were asking the full $120 for it
(and on the website too).
Just wanted to let you update your info.
Oh, I'm in the general Los Angeles area.

Just wanted to let you know that the Best Buy in my
area (Detroit, MI) had the Cyber Home DVD-500 for $50.
Purchase price was $120, with $70 combined mail in
rebate. In store ad said the sale was good through
2/1/03.
The other model (I believe was the non-progressive
scan model) had a purchase price of $65 with a $20
mail in rebate. Final cost of $45
This was a great deal, because I had my 10% off coupon
from Best Buy (good thru today). In the end will cost
me about $40.
Thanks for your work on the page. Can't tell you how
much money I have saved since I was told about the
site.

when purchased in store, the cyberhome 500 dvd player is $69.99 with a
$20 rebate that pritns out, this rebate should print out until febuary
1st. Thus making the DVD player $49.99 after rebate. This DVD player can
be easily hacked to disable Macrovision and to accept all regions. It's
an excellent DVD/VCD/SVCD/MP3 player with progressive scan output at an
awesome price. Also, open-box items may be found in stores.
